The course bridges the gap between evolving research and clinical application by integrating current TBI pathophysiology concepts with osteopathic principles.</p><p>The curriculum emphasizes the role of several factors in perpetuating neurologic dysfunction, including:</p><ul><li>Cranial strain patterns</li><li>Dural membrane restrictions</li><li>Venous congestion</li><li>Impaired cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics</li></ul><p>Participants will learn through a combination of didactic lectures and hands-on technique laboratories focused on practical application, with a strong highlight on optimizing venous drainage and CSF fluctuation.</p><p><strong>Course Curriculum &amp; Schedule</strong></p><p>The one-day program on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, includes the following sessions:</p><ul><li>An overview of TBI and why osteopathy is a powerful treatment for brain injury pathology.</li><li>Lectures and technique labs on using the dural membranes to effectively reseat a distorted brain.</li><li>Lectures and technique labs on using denser parts of the brain (the cerebellum and midbrain) to reseat a distorted cerebrum.</li><li>A research update on Parkinson&apos;s disease and osteopathy, focusing on its relevance to healing TBI.</li><li>Demonstrations of critical intra-oral techniques necessary for treating TBI during the second or third visit.</li><li>A lecture and lab focused on critical venous drainage and amplifying CSF flow to support brain healing, including the CV5 technique.</li></ul><p><strong>Instructors</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Maud Nerman DO, CSPOMM, CA:</strong> Dr. Nerman has over 40 years of practice focusing on neurological problems and has developed powerful cranial osteopathy protocols for treating acute and chronic head injuries.</li><li><strong>Sheldon Yao, DO, FAAO:</strong> Dr. Yao is the Chair of the Department of OMM at NYITCOM and has researched, published, and lectured extensively on using OMM to treat concussions and Parkinson&apos;s disease.</li></ul><p><strong>Logistics &amp; Eligibility</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Date &amp; Location:</strong> July 29, 2026, at the NYITCOM OMM laboratory in the Serota Building (Old Westbury, NY).</li><li><strong>Credits:</strong> Approved for a maximum of 7 AOA Category 1-A CME credits.</li><li><strong>Eligibility:</strong> Participation is limited to DO and MD trainees, and a prior cranial introductory course is preferred.</li><li><strong>Tuition:</strong> $350 for Physicians, $300 for NYITCOM Osteopathic Medicine Center and Alumni Members, and $250 for Residents. A major highlight of the event was the formal installation of&#xA0;<strong>Dr. Sheldon Yao, DO, FAAO</strong>, as President of the Academy&#x2014;an important milestone for both NYITCOM and the broader osteopathic community.</p><p>Ten NYITCOM students presented research posters, with Student Doctors&#xA0;<strong>Andrew Abdelmalak, OMS 3,</strong>&#xA0;and&#xA0;<strong>Giovanni Fardella, OMS3, Academic Scholar,&#xA0;</strong>each earning&#xA0;<strong>3rd place honors</strong>&#xA0;in their respective categories. In addition,&#xA0;<strong>Catherine Chin, OMS3, ACE,&#xA0;</strong>&#xA0;received&#xA0;<strong>3rd place</strong>&#xA0;in the A. Hollis Wolf Case Competition for her presentation,&#xA0;<em>&#x201C;Small Patients: Big Principles &#x2013; Osteopathy Through a Pediatric Lens.&#x201D;</em></p><p>NYITCOM faculty and alumni played a significant role in the academic and educational programming throughout the conference.&#xA0;<strong>Dr. Hugh Ettlinger</strong>&#xA0;delivered a lecture on osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) and lymphatics and led workshops for both physician and student tracks.</p><p>Within the student track,&#xA0;<strong>Dr. Sheldon Yao</strong>&#xA0;led the workshop&#xA0;<em>&#x201C;Balancing with Precision: Building Confidence in Balanced Ligamentous Tension (BLT),&#x201D;</em>&#xA0;while&#xA0;<strong>Dr. Michael Terzella</strong>&#xA0;presented&#xA0;<em>&#x201C;FPR: Thoracic Cage, Extremities, and Beyond.&#x201D;&#xA0;</em>Additional contributions were made by Drs.
