Dr. Donald Hankinson’s Workshop at NYITCOM – September 5, 2025

Honoring an Alumnus: A Day of Learning with Dr. Donald Hankinson, DO

On Friday, September 5, 2025, the Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO) and the Osteopathic Medicine Center at NYITCOM proudly hosted a special workshop with visiting alumnus Dr. Donald Hankinson, DO. Dr. Hankinson, one of the first two OMM fellows when the NYITCOM fellowship program was founded, returned to share his extensive experience in osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) with our students, residents, and faculty.

Dr. Hankinson, a 1985 graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, has over 20 years of clinical practice, including family and emergency medicine, and is Board Certified in both Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He is the Director of the Division of Osteopathic Medicine at Maine Medical Center, a consultant at Mercy Hospital, and a founding member of the Portland Osteopathic Children’s Clinic. A leader in cranial osteopathy and biodynamics, he has studied with renowned teachers such as Anne L. Wales, DO, and James Jealous, DO.

A Memorable Visit

Dr. Hankinson’s visit was a meaningful opportunity for students and faculty alike to connect with an accomplished alumnus and deepen their understanding of osteopathic philosophy and technique. His workshops underscored the importance of cultivating perceptual skills and integrating the principles of biodynamics into patient care.

We extend our gratitude to Dr. Hankinson for sharing his time, expertise, and passion for osteopathy with the NYITCOM community, and to all who helped make this event a success.
